This is a screen shot from my fastener program, it can create both metric and standard tapped holes and fasteners. 

This program doesn't simply insert a block but creates each element of the fastener and prompts for length or depth.

I have also created a hole dimensioning program to work with the fastener program.  Below is a screen shot of the hole dimensioning program and and example.

Once you select a hole the program will attempt to determine if it is a tapped, counterbore, countersink or other hole and recommend a depth.  This program is an excellent time saver.
